This year, Dudley Knox Library put the focus on access to NPS scholarly content.
In April 2012, Calhoun went live as the central location for NPS Technical Reports, Theses, Dissertations, Project Reports, Conference Proceedings, Journals and other documents produced by NPS authors.
Why is it important? Content in Calhoun shows up in Google searches, so it's visible, searchable, and freely available to the scholarly world.
Calhoun is presented in keeping with President Obama's Memorandum on Transparency and Open Government.
This year Calhoun went to Boston! This year's United States Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Association (USetdA) conference showcased Calhoun to an international audience of librarians, faculty and academic research professionals.
"Becoming Transparent: How a Mid-size STEM library with a Big Clientele Stepped Up, Got Visible, and said “Yes We Can” to President Obama, in 14 Easy Months" showed how Calhoun was developed to bring greater access and openness to NPS research. Read more about it here.
The IA/NPS Digitization Project added 10,785 NEW THESIS TITLES to Calhoun in 2012. That's more than 2 million pages!
