Think Tanks and Lobby Organizations

The web sites of think tanks, professional associations and lobby organizations can be an excellent source of in-depth research reports and statistical data. Just remember to be aware of the political bent of the organization as you consider the information they provide.

American Association for Budget and Program Analysis (AABPA)
Professional association for professionals and academics interested in public sector budget and policy analysis.
Association for Budgeting & Financial Management (ABFM)
A section of the American Society for Public Administration, ABFM promotes the professional development of budgeting and financial management in the public and non-profit sectors.
Brookings Institution
Books, policy briefs and other studies on Economics, Foreign Policy, and Government.

Some of the policy briefs are available free on their site. Selected books are also available online on such topics as defense policy, economics, education, government and politics, international affairs, and more. The Library owns or can obtain most Brookings publications, and we subscribe to their journals.
CATO Institute
Social security, the federal budget, military spending, and more. The Cato Journal and Cato Policy Report are also available.
A non-profit public policy research foundation with a libertarian (minimal government intervention) perspective.
Center for Economic and Policy Research (CEPR)
Conducts professional research and public education to promotes democratic debate on the most important economic and social issues that affect people's lives, including the federal budget and national debt.
Center for Naval Analyses (CNA)
Research for the Navy and Marine Corps on categories such as data & architecture management, domestic safety & security, fleet & installation readiness, force readiness, future fleet concepts, global security, innovation & communications, plans & strategy, strategic competition, tactics & operations.

A bipartisan, non-profit organization committed to educating the public about issues that have significant fiscal policy impact.
Concord Coalition
Non-partisan, grassroots organization advocating generationally responsible fiscal policy.
Federation of American Scientists (FAS)
This privately funded non-profit policy organization analyzes science, technology and public policy concerning global security
